80 A MCCB with TM220 release — panel integration note
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1180-3GE42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 80 A continuous at 40 °C, with the TM220 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release designed for line protection. Breaking capacity reaches 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, and 32 kA at 440 V, so it handles high-fault utility feeds without cascading upstream. The 70 mm depth and 101.6 mm width fit standard DIN-rail enclosures, but the 130 mm height requires checking gland-plate clearance on shallow cabinets.
Thermal derating and power loss
The breaker holds full 80 A up to 50 °C ambient, then derates to 78 A at 55 °C, 77 A at 60 °C, 75 A at 65 °C, and 74 A at 70 °C. Maximum power loss is 19.2 W — negligible for most panel thermal budgets, but worth factoring on densely packed DIN rails with limited convection.
