What this MCCB delivers
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1180-4EF36-0AG0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 80 A continuous current (Iu) with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. Its interrupting capacity hits 121 kA at 240 V, 75.6 kA at 415 V, and 52.5 kA at 440 V — enough headroom for high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) covers 480Y/277 V and 600 V delta panels without derating. Line protection version, no undervoltage release, no ground-fault module, no communication stack — this is a straight feeder or main breaker for a distribution panel.
Thermal derating and real-world current
The 80 A rating holds flat from 40 °C to 50 °C ambient. At 55 °C it drops to 76.8 A, at 60 °C to 75.2 A, at 65 °C to 73.6 A, and at 70 °C to 72 A. If the panel runs hot — say a sealed enclosure with multiple breakers — the 70 °C figure is the one to design against. The TM240 release is adjustable for long-time delay (tr max 1 s), so coordination with downstream feeders is possible without swapping the trip unit.
