What this 3VA MCCB is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1180-4EF36-0DA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) sized for line protection in distribution panels. Rated continuous current Iu is 80 A, and the 3-pole construction handles three-phase circuits. The TM240 overcurrent release provides fixed thermal-magnetic protection — thermal for overload, magnetic for short-circuit — with no electronic adjustment. Breaking capacity runs from 121 kA at 240 V through 75.6 kA at 415 V, 52.5 kA at 440 V, down to 11.9 kA at 690 V, which covers most industrial service-entrance and feeder applications.
Ratings that decide the fit
The 80 A continuous rating holds at ambient temperatures up to 50 °C without derating — at 55 °C it's 76.8 A, at 70 °C it's 72 A. That thermal curve matters when the breaker sits in a warm enclosure alongside other heat sources. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) gives headroom for 480 V and 600 V class systems. IP40 on the front means the breaker face is protected against tools and small solids; the enclosure itself handles the rest.
Integrated undervoltage release
This variant ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) built in — the auxiliary release design is specified as undervoltage release (UVR). That means the breaker trips automatically if supply voltage drops below a threshold, which is common in safety circuits or motor control centers where you want the breaker open on loss of control power. The integrated auxiliary trip order code is 3VA9608-0BB25. No auxiliary contact version is fitted; if you need status feedback, that's a separate add-on.
