What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1180-4EF36-0HC0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection in three-phase distribution panels. It is a 3-pole unit rated at 80 A continuous at 40 °C, with a rated insulation voltage of 800 V. This MCCB carries a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release and two HQ auxiliary switches built in, so you can remote trip and monitor position without adding external modules.
Breaking capacity and selectivity
The interrupting rating is 121 kA at 240 V AC, 75.6 kA at 415 V, 52.5 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. These figures define where this breaker can be applied in a selective coordination study — at 415 V it clears a 75.6 kA fault without upstream devices needing to open.
Thermal performance and panel fit
Rated 80 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient, then derates to 78 A at 55 °C, 77 A at 60 °C, 75 A at 65 °C, and 74 A at 70 °C. In a warm enclosure — say 55 °C inside a non-ventilated panel — you lose 2 A of headroom. Mounts on a DIN rail or panel; dimensions are 130 mm high, 76.2 mm wide, 70 mm deep.
