80 A continuous, 121 kA interrupting — selectivity headroom for distribution panels
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1180-4EF36-0JC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 80 A continuous at 40 °C, with a maximum interrupting capacity of 121 kA at 240 V. That 121 kA figure at 240 V means it can safely clear a fault up to that level without upstream devices needing to trip — critical for selective coordination in a main distribution panel serving high-fault-current transformer secondaries. The rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so it's also suitable for 480 V and 600 V class systems where the available fault current is lower (75.6 kA at 415 V, 52.5 kA at 440 V).
Thermal derating and auxiliary release fit
The 80 A rating holds from 40 °C through 50 °C, then derates to 78 A at 55 °C, 77 A at 60 °C, 75 A at 65 °C, and 74 A at 70 °C — a gentle slope that keeps usable capacity in a warm enclosure. The breaker ships with a shunt trip release (STL) and two auxiliary switches (HQ type), so you can integrate remote trip and status feedback without adding external relays. No undervoltage release or ground-fault monitoring is fitted on this variant.
Dimensions and panel fit
Width is 76.2 mm (3 in), depth 70 mm (2.76 in), height 130 mm (5.12 in). The 3-pole frame fits standard Siemens SENTRON mounting accessories and busbar systems. Maximum power loss is 19.2 W — factor that into enclosure thermal calculations.
