What this MCCB delivers for the panel
The Siemens 3VA1180-5EE42-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) built for line protection in distribution panels. Its four-pole design handles three-phase plus neutral, and the TM220 thermal-magnetic release gives you fixed thermal and magnetic trip settings — no adjustment dials, which means fewer variables during coordination studies. Rated 80 A continuously at 40 °C ambient, it holds that same 80 A through 50 °C, then derates to 78 A at 55 °C and 74 A at 70 °C. That thermal curve is what you use for panel fill calculations — if the enclosure runs hot, you don't lose much headroom. Breaking capacity is where this breaker earns its keep: 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. That 187 kA at 240 V is a high-interrupting rating — it clears a bolted fault on a large transformer secondary without the upstream breaker having to back it up.
Mounting and integration notes
Dimensions are 130 mm high, 101.6 mm wide, and 70 mm deep — a compact 4-pole footprint for a 187 kA-rated breaker. Front IP40 protection keeps dust out of the enclosure cutout; the rest of the body is unrated and relies on the panel's own IP rating. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V. Maximum power dissipation is 19.2 W.
