What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1180-5EF32-0BH0 is a 3-pole IEC molded-case circuit breaker from the 3VA1 frame, rated 80 A continuous with a breaking capacity of 55 kA at 415 V (class M). It uses a TM240 thermal-magnetic trip unit — the thermal element adjustable from 56 A to 80 A, the magnetic pickup set at 5 to 10 times In. That lets you fine-tune the overload threshold to the actual load current and set the short-circuit instantaneous trip high enough to ride through motor inrush. The integrated undervoltage release (UVR) at 24 V DC drops the breaker on loss of control voltage, standard for emergency-stop or undervoltage protection schemes. Two HQ auxiliary switches and a separate HQ trip-alarm switch give status feedback to a PLC or annunciator panel.
Deployment context
The 3VA1 frame mounts on a DIN rail or can be screw-fixed in a panel. The nut keeper kit (included) secures the line and load lugs — a detail that saves a trip back to the stockroom during a panel build. The UVR coil draws power continuously when the breaker is closed; if the control supply is shared with other loads, verify the 24 V DC source can hold the dropout voltage above the release threshold.
