80 A MCCB with 187 kA interrupting capacity — line protection for high-fault panels
The Siemens 3VA1180-5EF32-0DC0 is a SENTRON 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 80 A continuous at 40 °C, with a full-load interrupting capacity of 187 kA at 240 V AC. That interrupting rating drops to 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 500 V or 690 V — meaning this breaker is sized for high-available-fault-current service entrance or distribution panels where the upstream transformer can deliver a stiff short-circuit. The 80 A frame carries the same continuous current from 40 °C through 50 °C, then derates to 78 A at 55 °C, 77 A at 60 °C, 75 A at 65 °C, and 74 A at 70 °C — a thermal curve that keeps the breaker in service through a warm enclosure without nuisance tripping.
Undervoltage release and auxiliary switch complement
This variant ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) and two HQ auxiliary switches built in — no separate add-on module to order and snap onto the side. The UVR drops the breaker if control voltage falls below its dropout threshold, which is standard for motor feeder circuits that must not auto-restart after a sag or outage. The two auxiliary switches provide status feedback (open/closed) to a PLC or annunciator panel. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and maximum power loss at rated current is 21.7 W — a figure to include in enclosure thermal calculations when packing multiple breakers in a closed panel.
Physical fit and panel integration
The breaker measures 130 mm high, 76.2 mm wide (3 inches — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint), and 70 mm deep. It mounts directly to a DIN rail or panel-mount adapter plate. The 70 mm depth is shallow enough for most 200 mm deep enclosures, leaving room for cable bending radius behind the breaker. The 76.2 mm width matches the standard 3-pole cutout in Siemens SENTRON distribution panels; if replacing an older 3VA1 frame, the mounting hole pattern is identical.
