Line protection MCCB — 80 A, 187 kA interrupting
The Siemens 3VA1180-5EF36-0CC0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker built for line protection in distribution panels. It carries 80 A continuous current flat from 40 °C up to 50 °C, then derates gradually to 72 A at 70 °C — so in a warm enclosure you still get nearly full rating. The interrupting capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, and 75.6 kA at 440 V, which covers high-fault commercial and light industrial services without needing an upstream current-limiting fuse. This is a three-pole unit with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release — fixed thermal pickup, magnetic trip set at the factory. It includes an undervoltage release (UVR) as the auxiliary release design, and comes with two HQ auxiliary switches for status feedback. No communication module, no ground-fault monitoring, no phase-failure detection: it's a straightforward, non-communicating breaker for hardwired protection.
Mounting and panel fit
The breaker measures 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall, and 70 mm deep — a standard SENTRON 3VA footprint. It mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate via screw terminals. The front face carries an IP40 protection class, meaning it's fine in a clean indoor panel but not for washdown or outdoor exposure. The 70 mm depth leaves room for cable bending behind the unit in a 200 mm deep enclosure.
