What this MCCB covers
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1180-5EF36-0CH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) configured for line protection — the standard role of protecting feeders and downstream distribution from overloads and short circuits. Rated continuous current Iu is 80 A, and it holds that rating from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient; above 55 °C it begins a gentle derating curve down to 72 A at 70 °C. The interrupting capacity at 240 V is 187 kA, at 415 V it's 121 kA, at 440 V it's 75.6 kA, and at 690 V it's 17 kA — so this breaker handles high available fault current on the low-voltage side of a distribution transformer without needing a current-limiting fuse upstream.
Release and auxiliary fit
The overcurrent release is a TM240 — a thermal-magnetic type, fixed-trip, no electronic adjustment. That means the thermal pickup and magnetic short-circuit threshold are factory-set; if your load profile needs field-adjustable long-time or short-time pickup, you'd step up to an electronic release in the same 3VA frame. This unit ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) installed. The auxiliary contact block is populated with 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ type), giving you three dry contacts for status feedback to a PLC or annunciator panel. The integrated auxiliary trip order code is 3VA9608-0BB24.
Panel fit and environmental limits
Dimensions are 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width, 70 mm depth — a 3-pole MCCB that fits standard SENTRON 3VA mounting feet and busbar systems. Front IP40 rating means it's protected against tools and small wires but not against water ingress; install in a dry enclosure or a panel with a door. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. Mechanical endurance is 15,000 operations.
