Commissioning note — 80 A SENTRON MCCB with undervoltage release
The Siemens 3VA1180-5EF36-0DA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated 80 A continuous current (Iu) with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. The interrupting ratings are 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — so at 240 V it handles the highest fault current, but at 690 V the capacity drops sharply; verify the available fault current at your service voltage before committing the BOM line. This unit includes an undervoltage release (UVR) as the auxiliary release type, but no auxiliary contacts, no communication function, no phase failure detection, and no ground fault monitoring. The trip indicator is absent — so a remote status or trip-flag signal requires the separate auxiliary trip accessory 3VA9608-0BB25. Thermal derating is flat to 50 °C (80 A), then drops to 76.8 A at 55 °C, 75.2 A at 60 °C, 73.6 A at 65 °C, and 72 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs above 50 °C, size the breaker one frame step up or accept the reduced ampacity.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
The product carries IP40 protection on the front face (finger-safe, no water ingress). Storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C; operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C. The reference code per DIN EN 81346-2 is Q.
Panel fit — dimensions and mounting
The breaker measures 70 mm deep, 76.2 mm wide, and 130 mm high. The 76.2 mm width is a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint — it drops into the same DIN-rail or screw-mount slot as other SENTRON 3VA frame breakers without rewiring the bus bars. Endurance is rated at 15 000 mechanical/electrical cycles. The undervoltage release coil must be held at rated voltage to keep the breaker closed; a dropout below the release threshold opens the load. Verify the control voltage matches the UVR rating on the nameplate before energizing.
