What this MCCB is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1180-5GE42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated at 80 A, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a TM220 thermal-magnetic release — the thermal element handles overloads, the magnetic element handles short-circuits — and is built for 800 V rated insulation voltage. The interrupting ratings are steep: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 500 V and 690 V. That 187 kA figure means it can safely clear a fault at that level without upstream devices needing to coordinate — a real advantage in high-fault-capacity mains.
Thermal derating and panel fit
This MCCB holds its full 80 A rating up to 50 °C ambient. Above that it derates linearly: 78 A at 55 °C, 77 A at 60 °C, 75 A at 65 °C, 74 A at 70 °C (–). In a sealed, uncooled enclosure at 60 °C you lose 3 A — factor that into the load schedule. The footprint is 101.6 mm wide by 130 mm high by 70 mm deep, which fits standard Siemens SENTRON panel mounting. IP40 on the front means it's protected against tools and wires >1 mm — fine for a dry indoor panel, not for washdown.
