What this MCCB delivers
The Siemens 3VA1180-6EF32-0AH0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 80 A continuous current with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. Its three-pole design handles line protection in distribution panels, motor control centers, and feeder circuits where high fault current capability is needed. Breaking capacity is the headline here: 220 kA at 240 V AC, 154 kA at 415 V, 121 kA at 440 V, and still 17 kA at 690 V. That 220 kA figure at 240 V means this breaker can safely interrupt a fault current up to that level without failing — critical for high-capacity transformer secondaries or busway feeds where available fault current is high. The TM240 release is a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit — no electronic adjustment, no communication module, no voltage trigger or undervoltage release fitted. It's a straightforward, reliable overcurrent protector for standard power distribution. The auxiliary contact package includes two auxiliary switches plus one trip alarm switch (HQ version), giving status feedback for PLC inputs or alarm annunciation.
Thermal derating and ambient limits
Rated continuous current holds at 80 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. At 55 °C it derates to 76.8 A, at 60 °C to 75.2 A, at 65 °C to 73.6 A, and at 70 °C to 72 A. Operating ambient range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to +80 °C. Panel builders should account for the derating curve when loading adjacent breakers in a closed enclosure — the 80 A rating is only valid up to 50 °C internal cabinet temperature.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions: 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width, 70 mm depth. The 76.2 mm width is a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint — three modules at 25.4 mm each — so it fits existing SENTRON or comparable DIN-rail mounting bases. Front protection is IP40, meaning tools or fingers won't contact live parts but the breaker is not sealed against moisture. No communication function, no phase failure detection, no ground fault monitoring — this is a basic thermal-magnetic breaker for straightforward line protection.
