80 A MCCB with 220 kA interrupting capacity at 240 V
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1180-6EF32-0JC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 80 A at 40 °C, with a short-circuit breaking capacity of 220 kA at 240 VAC — enough to handle high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries without cascading upstream. At 415 V it still interrupts 154 kA, and at 690 V it holds 17 kA, covering most industrial distribution voltages. The 800 V rated insulation voltage means it's suitable for 480/277 V and 600 V panels with margin. Rated current holds at 80 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient, then derates gradually to 74 A at 70 °C (-). If your panel runs hot near the top of a cabinet, the 70 °C figure is the one to budget against. The unit draws 19.2 W maximum power loss at rated load — factor that into enclosure thermal calculations. This variant is configured for line protection and includes a shunt trip release (STL) plus two HQ auxiliary switches. The shunt trip allows remote tripping via a control signal — useful for emergency-stop circuits or interlocking with upstream gear. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, no communication module.
Panel fit and mounting
At 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall, and 70 mm deep (-), the 3VA1180-6EF32-0JC0 fits the standard SENTRON 3VA frame footprint. It mounts directly to a DIN rail or panel-mount baseplate — no adapter needed. The 70 mm depth is shallow enough for most 200 mm deep enclosures, leaving room for wiring behind the breaker.
