The Siemens 3VA1180-6EF36-0KA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 80 A continuous current at 40 °C, with a 220 kA breaking capacity at 240 V. That interrupting rating means it can clear a fault up to 220 kA without upstream fuses or a larger breaker — critical for high-fault panels near transformers or large motor banks. The 3-pole line-protection version carries a TM240 thermal-magnetic trip unit and a built-in shunt trip (STL) release for remote opening.
Breaking capacity across voltages
At 415 V it still holds 154 kA, at 440 V it's 121 kA, and at 690 V it drops to 17 kA. The 690 V figure is the one to watch if you're feeding a 690 V drive bus — that's still a solid number for a 80 A frame, but it's a fraction of the 240 V rating. The 80 A continuous rating holds steady from 40 °C up to 50 °C, then derates to 72 A at 70 °C.
Panel fit and mounting
Dimensions are 130 mm high, 76.2 mm wide, 70 mm deep. The IP40 front protection means it's suitable for enclosed panel mounting where the front face is behind a door. No auxiliary contacts or communication module on this variant — the shunt trip is the only integrated release beyond the TM240. The 3VA frame snaps onto a DIN rail or can be screw-mounted; the 70 mm depth leaves clearance for standard 100 mm deep enclosures.
