80 A MCCB with 220 kA interrupting capacity — line protection for high-fault panels
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1180-6GD46-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 80 A continuous, designed for line protection in distribution panels where fault currents can reach 220 kA at 240 V. That interrupting rating drops to 154 kA at 415 V and 121 kA at 440 V, then to 17 kA at 500 V and 690 V — so the voltage class of your service entrance or sub-feed determines whether this breaker has headroom or is at its limit. The TM210 thermal-magnetic release handles overload and short-circuit protection without an external trip unit. Front-side IP40 keeps dust out of the enclosure cutout.
Current derating and thermal limits
The 80 A rating holds from 40 °C up to 50 °C ambient. Above that it derates: 78 A at 55 °C, 77 A at 60 °C, 75 A at 65 °C, and 74 A at 70 °C. If the panel runs hot — say near a transformer or in a non-conditioned enclosure — the continuous load must be clipped to stay within the thermal curve. Operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. Power loss at full load is 19.2 W, which factors into enclosure ventilation sizing.
Dimensions and panel fit
The breaker measures 130 mm high, 101.6 mm wide, and 70 mm deep. Four-pole width at roughly 102 mm means it occupies two standard 54 mm DIN modules plus a sliver — verify the backpanel layout if replacing a narrower 3-pole unit. No undervoltage release or communication module is fitted on this variant; the TM210 release is self-powered.
