80 A SENTRON MCCB with TM240 release — current-production line protection
The Siemens 3VA1180-6GF46-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 80 A continuous, configured as a 4-pole unit with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. It is designed for line protection — the primary role is feeding downstream distribution or load groups where selectivity and fault isolation matter. Breaking capacity is 220 kA at 240 V, 154 kA at 415 V, 121 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. That 220 kA figure at 240 V means this breaker can interrupt very high fault currents at low voltage — typical for large transformer secondaries or bus-tie positions in industrial switchboards. Thermal derating is minimal up to 50 °C (full 80 A), then drops to 78 A at 55 °C, 77 A at 60 °C, 75 A at 65 °C, and 74 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs above 50 °C, the continuous load must be adjusted accordingly — the 74 A floor at 70 °C still leaves headroom for most 60–70 A feeder circuits.
Panel integration and physical fit
Dimensions are 101.6 mm wide, 130 mm high, 70 mm deep — a standard 4-pole MCCB footprint that fits Siemens SENTRON mounting bases and busbar systems. The front face carries IP40 protection, sufficient for enclosed panel mounting where tools or fingers might contact the front but no water spray is expected. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V. Power loss at rated current is 19.2 W maximum.
Operating environment and storage
Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage limits exceed the operating range — that governs handling and warehousing, not running conditions. No undervoltage release, no communication function, no ground-fault monitoring on this variant.
