The SENTRON 3VA1196-5ED32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 16 A continuous current at 40 °C, with a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release designed for line protection. It delivers 187 kA breaking capacity at 240 V AC — enough to handle high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries without cascading upstream breakers. The 800 V rated insulation voltage gives headroom for 480 V and 600 V class systems.
Breaking capacity and selectivity
At 240 V the interrupting rating is 187 kA; at 415 V it drops to 121 kA, at 440 V to 75.6 kA, and at 500 V and 690 V to 17 kA. For a 480 V panel fed from a 1 MVA transformer (typically 25–35 kA available fault current), the 75.6 kA at 440 V gives ample margin. The 17 kA at 690 V is still serviceable for most 600 V class industrial loads. The TM210 release means thermal pickup is fixed at 16 A; magnetic trip is factory-set and not field-adjustable — factor that into coordination studies.
Thermal derating and enclosure fit
Rated 16 A from 40 °C through 55 °C (–); at 60 °C it derates to 15 A, holding at 15 A through 70 °C. The 70 mm depth and 76.2 mm width fit a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint on DIN rail or panel-mount. Front IP40 means it's protected against tools and wires >1 mm — fine for a clean indoor panel, but not for washdown zones. Power loss is 10.6 W maximum — negligible for thermal budgeting inside a 200 mm deep enclosure.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Listed as current production. The SENTRON 3VA family is Siemens' main MCCB platform. Sourced and quoted to order against an RFQ through independent distribution.
