Breaking capacity and selectivity
The 3VA1196-5ED36-0AA0: This MCCB delivers 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. At 240 V the 187 kA figure is the highest in the 3VA1 16 A class — it lets you install this breaker downstream of a large transformer without needing a current-limiting upstream device. At 690 V the 17 kA rating still covers most industrial motor branch circuits. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) confirms the internal clearance supports 690 V line-to-line switching.
Thermal derating and enclosure fit
Rated current holds at 16 A from 40 °C through 55 °C ambient; it derates to 15 A at 60 °C and 65 °C, and stays at 15 A up to the 70 °C operating maximum. The 10.6 W maximum power loss means you can group several breakers in a standard IP40 enclosure without forced ventilation — just keep the 70 mm depth and 76.2 mm width per pole spacing in mind for the DIN-rail layout. Front IP40 protection is standard; the breaker has no trip indicator, undervoltage release, or communication module, so it's a straight thermal-magnetic device for basic line protection.
Current-production status (lifecycle stage 'current') means this order code is the active manufacturing variant — no end-of-life notice, no successor to track. For a critical-spare holding or a BOM freeze, this is the part you spec today and can reorder against an RFQ through independent distribution. Compliance documentation (RoHS, REACH, UL, IEC) is available from the manufacturer's support portal under the 3VA series device manual.
