Breaking capacity and selectivity
The 3VA1196-5EF32-0DA0: The interrupting rating drops as voltage rises: 75.6 kA at 440 VAC, 17 kA at 500 V and 690 VAC. That 17 kA floor at 690 V still covers most industrial motor branch circuits. For a 400 V panel, the 121 kA figure gives ample SCCR headroom for a main breaker feeding downstream feeders — selectivity coordination with smaller 3VA frame sizes is straightforward because the TM240 release curve is documented in the SENTRON selectivity manual.
Thermal derating and panel integration
Rated 16 A from 40 °C through 55 °C ambient; at 60 °C it derates to 15 A, holding at 15 A through 70 °C. That flat derating curve means no surprise trip in a warm enclosure as long as the continuous load stays at or below 15 A above 55 °C. Dimensions are 130 mm high, 76.2 mm wide, 70 mm deep — standard 3VA1 frame footprint, mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount adapter. Power loss is 13.1 W maximum, manageable in a sealed cabinet without forced ventilation.
Undervoltage release and auxiliary options
This variant ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) factory-installed — the UVR trips the breaker when control voltage drops below a threshold, standard for emergency-stop or mains-monitoring circuits. No voltage-trigger or communication function on this order code; no ground-fault monitoring. The basic switch design is 3VA11965EF320AA0, so any auxiliary switch or shunt trip accessory that fits that base will work here.
Environmental and insulation ratings
Rated insulation voltage 800 V, operating range -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. No trip indicator on the front — the UVR status is the only visual cue. For compliance documentation, the SENTRON 3VA series carries UL 489, CSA C22.2 No. 5, and IEC 60947-2 certifications; RoHS and REACH declarations are available from Siemens.
