What this MCCB carries
The SENTRON 3VA1196-6EF42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 16 A continuous current with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. Its headline breaking capacity is 220 kA at 240 V, dropping to 154 kA at 415 V and 121 kA at 440 V — these numbers tell you it handles high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries where upstream short-circuit current can exceed 100 kA. At 500 V and 690 V the rating settles to 17 kA, still adequate for most 480 V industrial distribution panels. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V. Current rating holds at 16 A from 40 °C through 55 °C ambient; at 60 °C it derates to 15 A and stays there through 70 °C. That means in a warm panel — say 50 °C inside the enclosure — you still get the full 16 A without derating the breaker. Power loss is 10.6 W max, which matters for heat buildup in a dense cabinet. Mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount in a standard distribution board. Front protection is IP40 — fine for a dry indoor panel; no washdown rating here. The I-trip is adjustable, so you can fine-tune the thermal pickup without swapping the breaker.
Panel fit and dimensions
Footprint: 101.6 mm wide, 130 mm tall, 70 mm deep. That 70 mm depth is shallow enough to fit most 200 mm deep enclosures without crowding the gland plate. Four-pole form factor means it occupies the same width as a standard 4-pole MCCB — no surprise when swapping into an existing SENTRON or third-party panel.
