Breaking capacity and thermal performance
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1196-6GD46-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 16 A continuous, built for line-protection duty. Its interrupting capacity is the headline number: 220 kA at 240 V, 154 kA at 415 V, 121 kA at 440 V, and still 17 kA at 690 V. That 220 kA figure at 240 V means it handles high-fault scenarios typical at the secondary side of a distribution transformer without needing an upstream current-limiting fuse — a real panel-space saver. At 415 V the 154 kA rating covers most industrial mains where the transformer impedance alone won't limit fault current below that level. Thermal performance holds full 16 A rating from 40 °C through 55 °C ambient. At 60 °C it derates to 15 A, same at 65 °C and 70 °C. That's a tight thermal curve — the breaker doesn't shed much capacity until you're well above typical panel ambient. The TM210 release is a thermal-magnetic trip with fixed thermal and magnetic settings, so no field adjustment for the overload pickup; you select the breaker for the load current.
Mounting and panel integration
The 3VA1196-6GD46-0AA0 measures 70 mm deep, 101.6 mm wide, 130 mm high — a 4-pole MCCB that fits standard Siemens SENTRON mounting footprints. Front-side IP40 protection means it's suited for enclosed panel mounting where the door provides the environmental seal. No communication module, no undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring on this variant — it's a straight line-protection breaker with the TM210 release.
