What this 3VA1 MCCB carries
The Siemens 3VA1216-4EF42-0AA0-ZD00 is a 4-pole IEC frame 250 molded case circuit breaker in breaking capacity class S, rated for a 160 A continuous current (In) with an ultimate breaking capacity (Icu) of 36 kA at 415 V AC. The thermal-magnetic trip unit (TM240, ATAM) provides adjustable overload protection from 112 A to 160 A (Ir) and fixed short-circuit protection from 5 to 10 times In (Ii). The neutral conductor is unprotected on this variant, and a nut keeper kit is included for DC Power OEM applications in China.
What the ratings mean for panel fit
The 36 kA Icu at 415 V places this breaker in the S (standard) breaking capacity class for the 3VA1 frame — sufficient for most industrial distribution panels where the prospective short-circuit current at the main bus does not exceed that level. The 160 A frame with adjustable Ir (112–160 A) lets the breaker serve as a feeder or large-motor branch protector; the 5–10x In short-circuit pickup range covers motor inrush without nuisance tripping. The unprotected neutral means this breaker is intended for 3-phase + PE systems where the neutral is bonded elsewhere or not required to be switched.
