What this MCCB delivers — and where it fits
The Siemens 3VA1216-5MH32-0JC0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) built for starter protection — meaning it's designed to sit ahead of a motor contactor and handle the high inrush without nuisance tripping, while still clearing a bolted fault. Rated 160 A continuously at 40 °C (ambient derating curve provided down to 142 A at 70 °C), it carries a breaking capacity of 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V, and still delivers 75.6 kA at 440 V — enough to coordinate with most downstream branch protection in a 480 V panel. The shunt trip (STL) and two HQ auxiliary switches are factory-fitted, so you don't lose a slot on the DIN rail for add-on accessories. Insulation voltage is rated 800 V, which covers 690 V line-to-line systems with margin. The housing measures 105 mm wide × 158 mm high × 70 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that fits most Siemens-compatible panelboards and distribution blocks without adapter brackets.
