MCCB for line protection
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1220-5EF42-0AE0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 200 A continuous current in line-protection duty. The TM240 thermal-magnetic release handles overload and short-circuit protection without undervoltage or ground-fault monitoring — a straight line-protection build. Breaking capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V AC and 121 kA at 415 V AC — that is high enough for most main-service entrance panels or large feeder breakers where fault current is stiff. At 690 V it still clears 17 kA, which keeps it viable in 690 V line-side applications with moderate fault levels. The 200 A rating holds flat from 40 °C to 50 °C ambient; derating starts at 55 °C (194 A) and drops to 176 A at 70 °C. For a panel running warm, that means no loss of headroom until the enclosure ambient crosses 50 °C.
Physical fit and auxiliaries
Footprint is 140 mm wide × 158 mm tall × 70 mm deep. The 140 mm width is standard for a 4-pole 200 A frame in the 3VA platform — it occupies the same panel cutout as other 3VA breakers in this frame class, so a panel laid out for a 3VA1010-2ED42-0AE0 will accept this unit without rewiring. Four high-quality auxiliary switches (HQ) are built in. No communication module, no voltage trip, no phase-failure detection — this is a clean breaker with just the aux contacts for status feedback. Front face carries IP40 protection — fine for a panel interior; not for washdown or outdoor exposure. Latching endurance is rated at 15,000 operations, which suits feeder duty where the breaker cycles infrequently.
Lifecycle and compliance
Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the reference code per DIN EN 81346-2 is Q (power circuit switching device). Storage temperature range is -40 °C to 80 °C; operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C.
