MCCB for high-fault panels
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1220-5EF42-0HH0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 200 A continuous current (Iu) with a TM240 thermal-magnetic release, designed for line protection in distribution panels where fault current can reach 187 kA at 240 V or 121 kA at 415 V. That interrupting capacity means it can safely clear a bolted fault at those levels without the arc re-striking or the case rupturing — critical for main or feeder positions in high-capacity switchboards. The front face carries IP40 protection, so it's suited for indoor panel mounting where tools or fingers won't contact live parts. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the breaker carries a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release for remote tripping, plus 2 auxiliary switches and 1 trip alarm switch (HQ configuration). The TM240 release provides thermal-magnetic overload and short-circuit protection; the thermal element tracks the 200 A frame rating across ambient temperatures from 40 °C to 70 °C, with derating starting at 55 °C (194 A) down to 176 A at 70 °C. No undervoltage release, no communication module, no phase-failure detection — this is a straightforward line-protection MCCB without add-on electronics.
Panel fit and physical integration
Dimensions are 158 mm high, 140 mm wide, and 70 mm deep — a 4-pole frame that occupies roughly the same footprint as other SENTRON 3VA breakers in this rating class. The 70 mm depth is shallow enough for most 200 mm deep enclosures, leaving room for wiring gutters and busbar connections. Mounts on a standard DIN rail or direct-panel via the base screw holes; the IP40 front allows flush mounting in a cutout.
Interchangeability with 3VA1110-5EE32-0JA0
The closest functional peer is the 3VA1110-5EE32-0JA0, a 3-pole 100 A frame. The 3VA1220-5EF42-0HH0 is a 4-pole 200 A frame — so it will not drop into a panel wired for a 3-pole 100 A breaker without busbar and cable changes. The physical width (140 mm vs the 3-pole's 105 mm) and the terminal size for 200 A conductors are different. If the panel was specified around the 3VA1110, rewiring and a larger cutout are required.
