What this MCCB carries — and what that means for your panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1220-5GF42-0HA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 200 A continuous current at 40 °C, with a TM240 thermal-magnetic release that handles both overload and short-circuit protection in one device. Breaking capacity runs 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 36 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — so at typical 400 V distribution levels it clears fault currents up to 121 kA without upstream fuses. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) means it's rated for 690 V line-to-line systems with margin. Rated for line protection duty, not motor or generator protection.
Derating and thermal behavior in the enclosure
The 200 A rating holds flat from 40 °C to 50 °C ambient. Above that it derates linearly: 194 A at 55 °C, 188 A at 60 °C, 182 A at 65 °C, 176 A at 70 °C. If your panel internal ambient runs 55 °C, you lose 6 A — plan the load side accordingly. The 70 mm depth and 140 mm width fit standard Siemens SENTRON mounting footprints; no special adapter plate needed for DIN-rail or screw-fixed installation. IP40 on the front face keeps dust out of the mechanism in a clean panel environment.
Auxiliary trip and release options
This version ships with a shunt trip (STL) for remote tripping — the integrated auxiliary trip order code is 3VA9688-0BL30. No undervoltage release, no auxiliary contact block, no ground-fault monitoring, no communication module, no phase-failure detection. If you need remote undervoltage release or status feedback, you'll add external modules. The 100% N-conductor protection rating means the neutral pole is fully rated — no derating needed for 4-wire systems with balanced or unbalanced loads.
