MCCB for high-fault panels
The Siemens 3VA1220-6EF42-0AC0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) with a TM240 thermal-magnetic release, rated 200 A continuously at 40 °C. Its 4-pole design handles three-phase plus neutral switching, common in North American and IEC distribution panels where full isolation is required. Interrupting capacity is the headline here: 220 kA at 240 V AC, 154 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, 30 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. That SCCR ladder means it can sit upstream of a transformer or in a high-fault industrial service entrance without cascading failure — the breaker clears before the fault energy damages downstream gear. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so the internal clearances and creepage are sized for 690 V systems with margin. Power loss maxes at 42 W — relevant for enclosed panel thermal calculations, especially when grouping multiple breakers.
Thermal derating and ambient
The TM240 release holds a flat 200 A from 40 °C through 50 °C. Above that it derates: 194 A at 55 °C, 188 A at 60 °C, 182 A at 65 °C, 176 A at 70 °C. If your panel ambient runs hot — say next to a drive cabinet or in a non-conditioned electrical room — the 55 °C derating to 194 A is the number to use for your load calcs, not the 40 °C rating. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage limit governs handling and warehousing, not running duty.
Auxiliary switching and options
Factory-fitted with 2 auxiliary switches (HQ type) for remote status indication — open/closed and tripped signals back to a PLC or annunciator. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, no communication module on this variant. The basic switch order code is 3VA12206EF420AA0 if you need to reference the switching mechanism separately.
