Circuit breaker for motor starter protection
The Siemens 3VA1220-6MH32-0BH0 is a 3-pole IEC frame 250 circuit breaker rated for starter protection. Its 70 kA breaking capacity at 415 V (class H) safely interrupts fault currents up to that level on a 415 V line without upstream cascading. Rated In=200 A with a TM120M thermal-magnetic trip unit configured for motor starting duty. The adjustable short-circuit release (Ii) spans 6 to 14 times In, so you set the magnetic threshold to ride through motor inrush without nuisance tripping. Note: this variant ships without overload protection — the thermal element is omitted — so it is a magnetic-only breaker for use ahead of a separate overload relay or motor-protective device. The integrated undervoltage release (UVR) operates on 24 V DC. If the control voltage drops, the UVR trips the breaker — standard practice for emergency-stop chains or safety circuits where loss of control power must open the main disconnect. Two auxiliary switches (HQ) and one trip alarm switch (HQ) provide status feedback to a PLC or annunciator panel.
Sourcing and lifecycle
The lifecycle stage for this order code is listed as current. Availability and current pricing are confirmed at quote time against an RFQ through independent distribution channels.
Panel integration notes
Mounts on DIN rail per the 3VA1 family footprint. The nut keeper kit (included in this order code) secures the breaker to the rail for applications subject to vibration. The UVR coil and auxiliary switches terminate via screw terminals; verify free-wheel diode polarity if the control circuit is inductive.
