Switch disconnector for isolation, not protection
The Siemens 3VA1225-1AA32-0JA0 is a SENTRON switch disconnector in MCCB design — rated 250 A continuous current (Iu) across 3 poles, with a shunt trip (STL) release for remote tripping on 110-127 V DC or AC 50/60 Hz. It carries no overload or short-circuit protection elements, so its role is load-break isolation and emergency switching under load, not circuit protection. The 250 A rating means it handles full-load current for a feeder or large motor branch circuit, but the upstream protective device (fuse or MCCB) must provide the fault interruption — this part is rated only 3 kA for 1 s and 0.5 s withstand, not a full breaking capacity.
Rated insulation voltage Ui of 800 V and max operational voltage 690 V AC / 500 V DC cover standard 400/480 V industrial panels and 500 V DC bus applications. The 70 mm depth, 105 mm width, and 158 mm height place it in the 3VA frame-250 footprint — wider than the 76.2 mm frame-160 siblings (like 3VA1110-5EE32-0JA0), so it will not drop into a panel cutout designed for the smaller frame without reworking the mounting or busbar connections. Busbar connection on the front terminals is standard for panelboard or switchboard integration; no lug terminals are supplied. The shunt trip (STL) release is the only auxiliary release fitted — no undervoltage release, no auxiliary contacts, no communication module. If you need remote undervoltage protection or status feedback, you must add those externally or choose a variant with the UVR option and auxiliary switch block.
