What this part is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1225-1AA42-0AD0 is a SENTRON switch disconnector in an MCCB (moulded-case circuit breaker) form factor, rated for 250 A continuous current (Iu) across 4 poles. It is designed for isolation and safe disconnection of loads under load or fault conditions, but it carries no overload or short-circuit protection elements — it is a pure disconnector, not a protective device. The 250 A rating means it can handle full-load current for motor feeders, distribution busbars, or incoming supplies up to that level without derating in standard ambient conditions. Rated insulation voltage (Ui) is 800 V, with maximum operational voltage of 690 V AC 50/60 Hz and 600 V DC. This covers common 400 V and 480 V industrial distribution systems with headroom, and supports DC bus applications up to 600 V. The 4-pole configuration allows simultaneous switching of three phases plus neutral, which is standard for TN-S or TN-C-S systems where neutral isolation is required. The unit includes 3 auxiliary switches (HQ type) for status feedback to a PLC or control system — useful for confirming the disconnector position in automated sequences or safety circuits. It accepts a busbar connection on the main current circuit, with front terminals for wiring access. An optional motor drive is available for remote operation.
Mounting and panel integration
Dimensions are 158 mm height, 140 mm width, 70 mm depth. The MCCB form factor means it mounts on a DIN rail or directly on a mounting plate via the standard cut-out for 4-pole SENTRON breakers. IP40 on the front protects against tools and solid objects larger than 1 mm; the rear and sides are open to the enclosure, so the overall panel IP rating governs. Busbar connection on the main circuit simplifies bus-stack assembly in distribution panels.
Environmental limits and endurance
Operating temperature range is -25 °C to +70 °C, storage range -40 °C to +80 °C. The storage limit governs handling and warehousing, not running conditions. Mechanical endurance is rated at 15 000 latching operations — this is the number of open-close cycles the mechanism is designed for before wear-out. Maximum power loss is 57 W at rated current, which should be factored into enclosure thermal calculations.
