What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1225-4EF42-0KA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) in the line protection version, sized for a 250 A continuous current rating at 40 °C and carrying a 4-pole configuration. Its breaking capacity is rated at 121 kA at 240 V, 75.6 kA at 415 V, 25 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at 690 V — so at typical 400 V distribution voltages it clears faults up to 75.6 kA without cascading upstream breakers. The TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release handles the overload and short-circuit protection curve, and a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release is integrated for remote tripping. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V.
Where it goes and how it fits
This is a DIN-rail-mount MCCB — 70 mm deep, 140 mm wide, 158 mm tall — so it lands in a standard distribution panel or motor control center enclosure. Front protection is IP40, meaning it's splash-proof from the front but not sealed for washdown; keep it in a dry enclosure or a panel with a gasketed door. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C, and the continuous current holds at 250 A from 40 °C up to 50 °C; above 55 °C it derates to 243.3 A at 55 °C, 236.5 A at 60 °C, 229 A at 65 °C, and 223 A at 70 °C. Latching endurance is rated at 15 000 operations — that's a maintenance interval to watch if this breaker cycles frequently under load on a conveyor or pump start-stop sequence.
