400 A MCCB with voltage-graded SCCR
The Siemens 3VA1340-4GF42-0DH0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 400 A continuous on a 4-pole frame. Its interrupting capacity scales with system voltage: 121 kA at 240 V, 75.6 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 52.5 kA at 500 V, and 11.9 kA at 690 V — so the same unit handles both 480 V distribution and 600 V class motor branch circuits, as long as the available fault current at the panelboard stays under the curve. Full rated current holds through 50 °C ambient; above that it derates linearly to 367 A at 70 °C. In a warm enclosure or near other heat sources, the 55 °C row (392 A) is the practical planning figure for continuous loads.
Auxiliary releases and trip indication
This breaker ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) and two auxiliary switches plus one trip alarm switch (HQ). The UVR drops the breaker when control voltage falls below the dropout threshold — standard for emergency-stop chains or undervoltage protection on motor feeders. The trip indicator gives a local visual flag; the alarm switch closes on fault trip, not manual switching, so a PLC or annunciator can distinguish a trip from a planned open.

Maximum power dissipation is 94.6 W; account for that heat in the enclosure thermal calculation, especially if the panel also houses drives or transformers.
