The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1580-5EF32-0AE0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying 800 A continuously at 40 °C without derating. Its TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release handles the overload and short-circuit trip curve, and the interrupting ratings hit 187 kA at 240 VAC — enough for high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries where the available fault current is substantial. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) means it can be applied in 480 V and 600 V class systems with full coordination margin.
The interrupting capacity drops as system voltage rises: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at both 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 52.5 kA at 690 V. For a 480 V panel, the 75.6 kA figure governs — verify it exceeds the calculated fault current at the point of installation. The 52.5 kA at 690 V is relevant for 600 V class Canadian or mining installations.
The breaker holds full 800 A from 40 °C through 50 °C. Above that, derating is linear: 780 A at 55 °C, 761 A at 60 °C, 741 A at 65 °C, and 722 A at 70 °C. Operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
Physical footprint and mounting
Dimensions are 210 mm wide, 320 mm tall, and 120 mm deep. That 210 mm width is the standard 8.27-inch frame for this current class — it occupies three 70 mm module spaces on a DIN rail or bolts directly to a mounting plate. The 120 mm depth (4.72 in) leaves clearance behind a standard 600 mm deep enclosure. Four auxiliary switches (HQ design) are built in, and the basic switch variant is 3VA15805EF320AA0.
