MCCB for high-fault panel builds
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2010-5HL36-0BD0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 100 A continuous current across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. Its interrupting capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 75.6 kA at 500 V, dropping to 3 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA figure at 240 V means it clears high-fault bolted faults on the secondary side of a typical 480 V–208/120 V distribution transformer without upstream coordination issues. The 105 mm width and 86 mm depth fit a standard 600 mm wide panel section with room for branch wiring gutters.
Line protection with undervoltage release
This MCCB is designed for line protection — it guards the feeder, not a specific motor or load. The built-in undervoltage release (UVR) trips the breaker when supply voltage drops below a threshold, preventing automatic restart after a brownout. Three HQ auxiliary switches provide status feedback to a PLC or indication panel. No ground-fault monitoring or communication function is included, so plan for external GFCI or metering if those are required. The 16 W maximum power loss is manageable in a ventilated enclosure; factor it into thermal calculations if the panel is sealed.
Panel fit and wiring constraints
Mounts on a DIN rail or direct panel via the SENTRON 3VA mounting base. The 105 mm width occupies three 35 mm module spaces; the 86 mm depth leaves clearance for rear-access busbars or a 100 mm deep enclosure. Rated for -25 °C to 70 °C operating ambient, -40 °C to 80 °C storage. No trip indicator on the front face — verify trip status via the auxiliary switch contacts or a separate indication module.
