Line protection breaker with ETU320 — 100 A frame, 187 kA at 240 V
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2010-5HL36-0DH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection duty, carrying a continuous current Iu of 100 A and a maximum breaking capacity of 187 kA at 240 V AC. Its interrupting rating drops to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 79 kA at 500 V, and 3.4 kA at 690 V — the steep derating above 500 V means this frame is sized for 400 V-class distribution, not 690 V main feeders. The ETU320 electronic trip unit handles the overcurrent protection; an undervoltage release (UVR) is factory-fitted, and the auxiliary contact block provides two auxiliary switches plus one trip alarm switch (HQ type) for status feedback to a PLC or annunciator.
Current derating and thermal limits
The breaker holds its full 100 A rating from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. Above that, derating is linear: 96.25 A at 55 °C, 92.5 A at 60 °C, 88.75 A at 65 °C, and 85 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot, size the upstream conductor and load for the derated value, not the nameplate Iu. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range extends from -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power dissipation is 16 W — negligible for most enclosures, but worth checking if the panel is densely packed with multiple breakers.
Panel fit and integration
Footprint is 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep — standard 3-pole MCCB dimensions for a 100 A SENTRON frame. Mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate via screw terminals; the depth leaves clearance for rear-connected busbars in most distribution panels. Rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V. Mechanical endurance is 20,000 operations.
