What this MCCB delivers — and what the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2010-5HL42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 100 A continuous current across its entire operating temperature range — from 40 °C through 70 °C, the current rating holds flat at 100 A, no derating needed in a warm enclosure. Breaking capacity is the real story here: 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA at 240 V means it can interrupt a fault current nearly double what most panelboards see — useful for high-capacity transformer secondaries or large motor control centers where available fault current is high. The ETU320 electronic trip unit gives adjustable overload and short-circuit protection, plus configurable neutral protection (OFF, 50%, or 100%) via the N-conductor protection design. Line protection version — no voltage trip, no ground-fault monitoring, no communication module. This is a straightforward feeder or main breaker for a distribution panel.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions: 181 mm high, 140 mm wide, 86 mm deep. That 86 mm depth is the dimension behind the panel — critical when you're fitting this into a shallow enclosure or a gland-plate clearance. The 140 mm width for a 4-pole MCCB is standard for the SENTRON 3VA frame; it will occupy four pole spaces on a DIN rail or mounting plate. Front face is IP40 rated — protected against tools and small wires, but not washdown. Keep it inside the panel, not on the door. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, operating voltage up to 690 V AC. That 800 V Ui means the internal clearances and creepage are designed for 690 V systems with margin — no surprise flashover on a 480 V or 600 V line.
Power loss and thermal considerations
Maximum power loss is 13.5 W. In a densely packed panel, that heat adds up — account for it in the enclosure's thermal budget. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage minimum matters if this breaker sits in an unheated warehouse before installation.
