What this MCCB is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2010-5HN32-0BH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection — so it's your primary overcurrent and short-circuit protection device for feeders, not for motor branch-circuit protection with adjustable thermal trips. It carries a continuous current Iu of 100 A across the full operating temperature range from -25 °C to 70 °C, with zero derating from 40 °C through 70 °C — that's flat 100 A all the way, which simplifies panel thermal calculations. The insulation voltage is rated at 800 V, giving you headroom on 480 V and 600 V class systems.
Breaking capacity — the real fault-handling story
This breaker's interrupting capacity is the headline number that decides whether it holds downstream coordination. At 240 V it clears 187 kA — that's high enough for most main-service positions on 208/240 V distribution. At 415 V and 440 V it's still 121 kA, which covers the majority of industrial 400 V-class installations. At 500 V it drops to 75.6 kA, and at 690 V it's 3 kA — that 690 V figure tells you this is not a 690 V main breaker; it's a feeder breaker on lower-voltage sections where fault current is limited. The 3 kA at 690 V is still safe for downstream sub-feeders with low transformer impedance, but you'd need to verify the available fault current at that voltage level.
Auxiliary contacts and undervoltage release — what's on board
The breaker ships with 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ type), all factory-fitted. That's enough for a status feedback to a PLC (breaker open/closed and tripped) plus a spare auxiliary for a shunt trip or indicator light. The undervoltage release (UVR) is included — it's the design, which means the breaker drops open when control voltage falls below a threshold, useful for safety circuits that need a loss-of-voltage trip. No voltage-trip release, no ground-fault monitoring, no communication module on this variant — it's a straight line-protection MCCB with basic auxiliaries and UVR.
Panel fit — dimensions and mounting
Width is 105 mm (4.13 in), depth is 86 mm (3.39 in), height is 181 mm (7.13 in). That's a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for the 100 A frame size — it will drop into existing SENTRON 3VA panel cutouts and bus-bar arrangements without re-drilling. The breaker mounts via the rear screw terminals or plug-in base (not included), typical for panelboard or switchboard integration.
