What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2010-5KP32-0AD0 is a SENTRON-series, 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection — the primary overcurrent safeguard in a distribution panel or machine supply. It carries a rated continuous current Iu of 100 A at 40 °C, holding that figure through 50 °C before a gentle derating curve kicks in: 96.25 A at 55 °C, 92.5 A at 60 °C, 88.75 A at 65 °C, and 85 A at 70 °C. The interrupting capacity is the headline number for a fault-current study: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 79 kA at 500 V, and 3.4 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA rating at 240 V means it can safely clear a high-fault bolted short in a 240 VAC distribution board without the arc flashing upstream — critical for service-entrance or large sub-feed applications.
Trip unit and intelligence
The overcurrent release is an ETU850 — an electronic trip unit that provides adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves, plus communication and measurement functions. Three auxiliary switches (HQ type) are built in for status feedback to a PLC or indication lamp. Maximum power loss is 13.5 W, which factors into enclosure thermal calculations when multiple breakers are ganged in a panel.
Mounting and environment
Footprint: 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep — standard 3-pole MCCB envelope for DIN-rail or screw-mount panel integration. Front face carries IP40 protection — splash protection is adequate for a dry indoor panel; the body itself is open-frame behind the panel. Operating temperature range -25 °C to +70 °C, storage from -40 °C to +80 °C.
