What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2010-5KP32-0BA0 is a SENTRON 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection in industrial distribution. It carries 100 A rated continuous current (Iu) across the 40 °C to 50 °C band, derating to 85 A at 70 °C — so in a warm enclosure you still hold 85 A continuous without nuisance tripping. The ETU850 electronic trip unit gives you adjustable overload and short-circuit protection curves, plus a communication function for remote monitoring or integration into a higher-level system. An undervoltage release (UVR) is built in, which drops the breaker if control voltage falls below the dropout threshold — standard for safety circuits that need to isolate on loss of control power.
Breaking capacity — what the numbers mean for selectivity
The 3VA2010-5KP32-0BA0 delivers 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 79 kA at 500 V, and 3.4 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA at 240 V is well above typical utility fault levels in North American 240/120 V split-phase panels — you can use it as a main breaker without worrying about series-rated downstream gear. At 415 V, the 121 kA figure covers most industrial service-entrance faults; the drop to 3.4 kA at 690 V means it is not intended for high-voltage motor circuits at that voltage — you would step up to a higher-rated frame for 690 V applications. The ETU850 release coordinates with downstream SENTRON 3VA1 or 3VA2 breakers for selective tripping, keeping a faulted branch isolated while the main stays closed.
Mounting and integration
The breaker measures 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep — a standard 3VA2 frame size that mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate via the four corner screws. The 86 mm depth means it fits flush in most 200 mm deep enclosures without protruding into the gland plate area. Three-pole design with line-side and load-side terminals accepting up to 185 mm² copper or aluminium conductors. The UVR module (3VA9608-0BB11) is factory-installed; no field wiring of the release coil needed. Communication connection uses the integrated RJ45 port on the front face — no separate communication module required.
