What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2010-6HN32-0HC0 is a molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection in industrial power distribution. It carries a continuous current rating of 100 A across the full ambient temperature range from 40 °C to 70 °C without derating, which simplifies panel sizing when the breaker lives near warm busbars or drives. Breaking capacity is 242 kA at 240 V AC, dropping to 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 3 kA at 690 V. That 242 kA rating at 240 V means this breaker can interrupt very high fault currents at the low-voltage side of a step-down transformer — a common point where available fault current peaks. The 3 kA at 690 V is a reminder that this is a 3-pole breaker wired for line-to-line faults on a 690 V system; for 690 V phase-to-phase applications, verify that the available fault current stays under that ceiling.
Built-in accessories and wiring
This variant ships with a factory-installed shunt trip (STL) release and two auxiliary switches HQ. The shunt trip allows remote tripping from a safety PLC or emergency-stop relay — useful when the breaker is in a remote panel and you need to kill power without walking over. The two HQ auxiliary contacts give status feedback (open/closed) to the control system. The underlying basic switch is order code 3VA20106HN320AA0; the breaker does not include an undervoltage release or ground-fault monitoring. No communication module is fitted, so this is a straight electromechanical MCCB — no IoT gateway, no Modbus. For a panel that needs remote monitoring, you would add an external power meter or a separate communication-capable breaker.
Physical fit and environment
Dimensions: 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep. That depth is the overall body depth including the rotary handle and terminals — check your enclosure depth before sliding it onto the DIN rail or mounting plate. The width of 105 mm for a 3-pole 100 A MCCB is standard for this SENTRON frame size; it matches the cutout spacing used across the 3VA2 family. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to +80 °C. Maximum power loss at rated current is 13.5 W, which is moderate for a 100 A MCCB and won't drive much heat into a well-ventilated panel.
