Trip adjustment and ground-fault monitoring
The thermal-magnetic trip unit is field-adjustable via the rotary dial on the front face — set it anywhere between 16 A and 40 A in discrete steps. This lets you match the breaker to the actual continuous load without swapping the entire unit. The ground-fault monitoring version uses summation current formation on L + N conductors, meaning it measures vector sum of phase and neutral currents to detect leakage to earth.
The 3VA2040-5HM42-0AA0 measures 140 mm wide, 181 mm tall, and 86 mm deep — a 4-pole frame that occupies the same footprint as other 3VA2 4-pole breakers in the 40 A class.
That is unusual for a thermal-magnetic MCCB; many competitors start derating above 40 °C.
