What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2063-5HL32-0JH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying a continuous current Iu of 63 A at 40 °C and holding that rating up to 50 °C before derating starts. It's fitted with an ETU320 electronic trip unit — that's the microprocessor-based release that gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous protection curves, not a thermal-magnetic slug. Breaking capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415/440 V, 79 kA at 500 V, and 3.4 kA at 690 V — numbers that tell you this breaker was designed for high-fault industrial distribution, not light commercial panels.
What the ratings mean on the panel floor
The 63 A continuous rating with no derating through 50 °C means you can load this breaker to full nameplate in a warm enclosure without bumping up a frame size. At 55 °C it's 60.6 A, at 70 °C it's 53.6 A — so the thermal curve is gradual, not a cliff. The 187 kA interrupting rating at 240 V is the headline number, but for most 400 V-class industrial plants the relevant figure is 121 kA at 415 V — that's the SCCR you coordinate against downstream feeder breakers. Rated insulation voltage Ui of 800 V tells you the internal clearances and creepage are designed for 690 V systems, which matches the 3.4 kA breaking capacity at that voltage — it's not a 690 V workhorse, but it will clear a fault on a 690 V line.
Trip unit and auxiliary configuration
The ETU320 is the base electronic trip in the 3VA range — no communication, no ground-fault monitoring, no phase-failure detection. It's a straightforward adjustable electronic release for line protection. This variant ships with an integrated shunt trip (STL) for remote tripping, plus a HQ auxiliary contact block carrying 2 auxiliary switches and 1 trip alarm switch — enough for status feedback and remote indication without adding a separate module. The shunt trip is the supplied basic switch 3VA2063-5HL32-0AA0, and the auxiliary trip module is 3VA9688-0BL32 — both factory-integrated, so no field assembly required.
Panel fit and dimensions
Mounts on a standard DIN rail or direct-panel mount. Dimensions are 105 mm wide (3-pole frame), 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep — check the depth clearance against your enclosure door and busbar stack.
