What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2063-5JP42-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 63 A continuous current across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. It's a 4-pole unit with an ETU550 electronic trip unit, designed for line protection in distribution panels. The ETU550 gives you adjustable overload and short-circuit protection curves, plus a communication function onboard — meaning this breaker can talk to a BMS or PLC for remote monitoring and trip event logging without an add-on module.
Breaking capacity — what the numbers mean for your panel
The interrupting ratings are given across system voltages: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at both 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3 kA at 690 V. That 121 kA at 415 V tells you this breaker handles high-fault scenarios common in industrial distribution — it's not a light-duty branch breaker. The steep drop to 3 kA at 690 V reflects the ETU550's limits at the top of its insulation voltage (rated 800 V). If your system runs 690 V with high prospective fault current, this isn't the frame for that.
Panel fit and form factor
Dimensions: 181 mm high, 140 mm wide, 86 mm deep. That 140 mm width on a 4-pole frame is typical for this class — plan your DIN-rail or mounting-plate layout accordingly. IP40 on the front face means it's protected against tools and wires >1 mm, but it's not sealed against moisture; keep it inside a rated enclosure in wet environments.
What the ETU550 adds
The ETU550 electronic trip unit provides adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous settings. The communication function allows remote monitoring and trip event logging. No ground-fault monitoring on this variant.
