What this MCCB carries — and what that means for your panel
The Siemens 3VA2063-5KP32-0AD0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker, 3-pole, rated 63 A continuous current Iu, with an ETU850 electronic trip unit. At 240 V it interrupts 187 kA, at 415 V and 440 V it holds 121 kA, and at 690 V it still clears 3.4 kA. That interrupting capacity means it can sit upstream in a high-fault distribution panel without needing a current-limiting fuse ahead of it — the breaker itself handles the full available fault current at those voltages. The ETU850 release gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves — not a fixed thermal-magnetic. That matters when coordinating with downstream breakers in a selective scheme: you can dial the short-time delay to ride through inrush without nuisance trips, then let the downstream device clear a bolted fault. The 5.4 W maximum power loss stays low enough that you can pack breakers tight in a panel without cooking the enclosure. Rated continuous current holds at 63 A up to 50 °C ambient. Above that it derates: 60.6375 A at 55 °C, 58.275 A at 60 °C, 55.9125 A at 65 °C, and 53.55 A at 70 °C. If your panel sits near a steam line or a curing press, that derating curve tells you the real ampacity — not the nameplate number.
Mounting and integration
The 3VA2063-5KP32-0AD0 measures 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep. It mounts on a DIN rail or bolts directly into a panel baseplate. The IP40 front protection means it keeps out tools and fingers but is not sealed against washdown — install it inside a cabinet, not on the machine frame in a wet area. Three auxiliary switches HQ are built in, giving you status feedback for PLC or SCADA without adding an external contact block. Communication function is onboard, so it can report trip events and current values over the bus — no separate communication module required for basic integration.
