What this 100 A MCCB delivers in a panel
The Siemens 3VA2110-5HL36-0AB0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 100 A continuous current, fitted with an ETU320 electronic trip unit. It's the line-protection variant — meaning it's configured for cable and busbar protection, not motor or generator duty. The ETU320 gives you adjustable long-time and short-time pickup, plus instantaneous and ground-fault thresholds, all set via DIP switches on the front face without needing a separate programming tool. Breaking capacity climbs with system voltage: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 79 kA at 500 V, and 4.25 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA figure at 240 V is the headline number — it handles worst-case fault currents on a low-voltage transformer secondary without upstream fusing, which is what you'd want in a main or tie breaker position in a 480Y/277 V switchboard. Temperature derating is published: full 100 A up to 50 °C ambient, then 96.25 A at 55 °C, 92.5 A at 60 °C, 88.75 A at 65 °C, and 85 A at 70 °C. If your panel hits 60 °C near the top of the enclosure, you lose 7.5 A of headroom — plan the load accordingly.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions: 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, 86 mm deep. That 105 mm width is a standard 4-module footprint on a DIN rail or bolted busbar mount — it replaces earlier 3VA1 frames without drilling new holes. The IP40 front protection means it's splash-safe on the operator face but not sealed against hose-down; keep it inside a rated enclosure for wet environments.
Trip unit and auxiliary options
The ETU320 electronic trip unit is the standard adjustable type for this frame. No undervoltage release, no voltage trigger, no communication function, no phase failure detection — this is a basic line-protection breaker with a mechanical handle and auxiliary contacts (2 auxiliary switches HP). Maximum power loss is 10 W; plan ventilation if multiple breakers are ganged in a small enclosure.
