What this MCCB is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2110-5JQ32-0BH0 is a SENTRON-series molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection — meaning it sits at the incoming feeder or main distribution point in a panel, not downstream on a motor branch. It's a 3-pole unit with a 100 A frame and a 20 A adjustable thermal-magnetic trip, so the breaker body is sized for up to 100 A but the trip unit is set at 20 A out of the box. That 20 A initial value is the continuous current rating; you can adjust it upward within the frame's range if the load demands it. The interrupting ratings are what make this part stand out on a high-fault panel: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. At 240 V, that 187 kA means it can safely clear a fault current nearly 10× the frame rating without the arc flashing over or the case rupturing — critical for service-entrance or transformer-fed mains where available fault current is high. The steep drop to 3.7 kA at 690 V is typical for MCCBs at that voltage; if your system runs 690 V, this breaker is only suitable where the prospective fault current stays under that ceiling. Thermal performance is flat across the board: the breaker carries 100 A continuously from 40 °C all the way to 70 °C ambient with no derating. That means you don't have to oversize the frame or reduce the trip setting when the panel runs hot — a real advantage in a crowded enclosure or a warm plant floor. Maximum power loss is 12.5 W at rated current, so the heat it dumps into the panel is modest for a 100 A frame.
Built-in auxiliaries and releases
This MCCB ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) integrated — the entry confirms the design includes a UVR, and the flag confirms undervoltage release is present. The UVR trips the breaker when line voltage drops below a threshold, which is standard for preventing motor re-acceleration after a sag or outage. It also carries 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ type), so you get remote status indication for open/closed and tripped conditions without adding external relay logic. A communication function is built in.
