MCCB for motor protection with high interrupting capacity
The Siemens 3VA2110-5MN32-0CC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) from the SENTRON series, designed specifically for motor protection. It carries a continuous current rating of 100 A across the full ambient temperature range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. The interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, and still holds 75.6 kA at 500 V; at 690 V it drops to 3.7 kA, which is typical for this frame size. This SCCR headroom means it can be applied on high-fault utility feeds without cascading to an upstream breaker. The unit includes an undervoltage release (UVR) and phase failure detection as built-in functions — both critical for motor protection schemes where a lost phase can single-phase a motor and cause winding damage. The auxiliary switch configuration is two HQ (high-rupturing-capacity) auxiliary switches, and the design of the auxiliary release is the undervoltage release itself. There is no ground-fault monitoring version, no communication function, and no voltage-trip indicator on this variant. Panel footprint: 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep. Power loss at rated current is 12.5 W maximum — modest for a 100 A frame, so ventilation in a standard IP54 enclosure is usually adequate. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. The basic switch supplied is order code 3VA21105MN320AA0.
