MCCB for motor circuits — what the ratings mean
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2110-5MN36-0KA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 100 A continuous at 40 °C, built specifically for motor protection duty. The ETU350M electronic trip unit gives you adjustable overload and short-circuit curves plus phase-failure detection — that last one is the difference between catching a lost phase before the motor cooks and finding out when the winding lets go. Interrupting capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V and 121 kA at 415 V, so it clears high-fault bolted shorts without welding its contacts shut. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) means it's comfortable on 480 V or 600 V class systems with headroom.
Panel fit and integration
Mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount base. Dimensions are 105 mm wide × 181 mm tall × 86 mm deep — standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for the SENTRON 3VA platform. The shunt trip release (STL) is integrated, so you can remote-trip it from an E-stop or PLC output without adding an external coil module. No auxiliary contacts on this variant, so if you need status feedback to the controller, plan for the separate 3VA9688-0BL33 auxiliary trip block.
Thermal derating and power loss
Rated 100 A up to 50 °C ambient, then derates to 96 A at 55 °C, 94 A at 60 °C, 92 A at 65 °C, and 90 A at 70 °C. Maximum power dissipation is 75 W — factor that into enclosure heat rise if you're packing several breakers in a sealed panel. Operating range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to +80 °C.
