What this MCCB is and what it protects
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2110-7MQ36-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 100 A continuous across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed in a warm enclosure. It is explicitly designed for motor protection, with phase failure detection and ground-fault monitoring via summation current formation on the L-conductor. Communication function is built in, so it can report status and trip events to a PLC or SCADA without an add-on module.
Breaking capacity — the real fault-handling envelope
This MCCB delivers 330 kA interrupting capacity at 240 V, 242 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 187 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. The steep drop above 500 V means the 690 V rating is limited to 3.7 kA — adequate for secondary-side protection on a 690 V distribution but not for high-fault service-entrance duty at that voltage. The 330 kA at 240 V covers most North American panelboard and motor control center applications with generous headroom.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for DIN-rail or panel-mount installation. Maximum power loss is 10 W, so ventilation in a sealed enclosure is not critical. The undervoltage release is absent on this variant; if undervoltage protection is needed, that function must be provided externally or by a different order code.
Protection and measurement features
Beyond motor protection and phase failure detection, this breaker includes an other measurement function — energy or power metering via the communication interface. The ground-fault monitoring uses summation current formation on the L-conductor.
Environmental limits
Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage minimum is the handling limit — the breaker can sit in a cold warehouse without damage, but must be above -25 °C to be energized.
